The obligation to pay contributions implies the performance of the necessary activities by means of which the obligated parties contribute economic resources to the Social Security System, the basic elements being the contribution base, the contribution rate and the contribution.
The liquidation of the Social Security contributions, which have been accrued during the period to which the liquidation refers and, if applicable, of the deductions and surcharges, will be made by means of the completion, by the parties responsible for the obligation to contribute, of the contribution documents determined by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

Una vez reconocido este derecho, podrá solicitar una tarjeta sanitaria individual (TSI). De este modo, podrá acceder no sólo a los servicios médicos, sino también a la prestación farmacéutica a precios reducidos, independientemente de que tenga o no un seguro privado.
Hay que tener en cuenta que el derecho a la asistencia sanitaria, no sólo para los asegurados sino también para los beneficiarios a su cargo, comienza el día de la afiliación a la Seguridad Social y se hace efectivo al día siguiente de la fecha de presentación del alta en el régimen correspondiente. Se inicia, en los demás casos, en la fecha que figure en la resolución de reconocimiento del derecho.
El procedimiento varía en función de si su condición es la de trabajador, pensionista o beneficiario de prestaciones de la Seguridad Social o se encuentra en otros supuestos. También dependerá de si tiene o no documento nacional de identidad español (DNI) o número de identidad para extranjeros (NIE) y certificado digital.
