Since 2000, the Instituto de Educación Superior «Educación Médica San Fernando» has been in charge of training technical health professionals. These careers have a duration of six academic cycles and a comprehensive academic training with a humanistic, scientific and technological base, to achieve the profile of the technical professional they train. The careers currently offered are: Technical Nursing, Optometry and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. There are also continuing education courses such as: Podiatry, Massage Therapy, Geriatrics, First Aid and Injectables.
As an institution that promotes and provides higher level educational services, according to scientific and technological advances, with quality, honesty, equity and opportunity for the participation of all social actors in the locality, its mission is to train technical and technical professionals.

Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education
The creation of the university center has its origin in a project of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) requested by our Government. It was originally called Instituto Superior Pedagógico de la Educación Técnica (ISPET) and was located in the Centro de Estudiantes de Ciencias Agrícolas (CEDCA), in the Boyeros municipality. This project was listed in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the specification CUB 71-511. It began in the 1972-1973 school year with an emergent training course. It was officially created in the 1973-1974 school year.
In the school year 1976-1977 with the network of Higher Pedagogical Institutes of MINED, the center becomes the ISPETP and operates with the Faculties of: Technology, Agricultural Sciences and Economic Sciences. The bachelor’s degree in all specialties was taught in the current Escuela Superior de Cuadros del MINBAS and in some premises of the Politécnico «José Martí».
In 1979 the Faculty of Mechanics was approved. From 1986 onwards, ISPETP’s admission was carried out with students graduated from related specialties and was named after Héctor Alfredo Pineda Zaldívar, an outstanding educator of the center who lost his life in an internationalist mission in the fulfillment of his solidarity and professional duty.
